JOIN THE RESISTANCE

Marxism 2018

A Conference by the Workers for the Workers

Multifaith Centre | University of Toronto

April 27 – 28, 2018| 569 Spadina

The world needs radical change. Climate chaos, poverty, inequality, racism and the rise of the far-right are the dominant issues of the day. Our governments have done little or nothing to make the kind of change require to end these crises.

Working people could have the power to make the necessary changes in society, but to do so requires organization and political clarity. How will this be achieved?

This is a time of mass struggle and upheaval. Millions are looking for an alternative to a world in deep crisis. Marxism 2018 is an opportunity to discuss revolutionary ideas that can contribute to effective resistance today.

The cases of Colten Boushie and Tina Fontaine exhort us to organize and expose the fatal contradictions of Justin Trudeau’s faux reconciliation and how the capitalist history of Canada exploited and prevented true Indigenous sovereignty. On the climate and environmental fronts, Trudeau’s double speak is shared by NDP politicians in both B.C. and Alberta. As we speak,?youth-led activists and protestors are mobilizing on Burnaby Mountain to stop the construction of Kinder Morgan pipeline. They are met with the full force of police.

One year into Trump’s elections and the friendly acknowledgement by Trudeau, the ruling class are embolden by the increasingly racist rhetoric and unethical cooperate behaviour. It has unleashed both barbarity and unprecedented resistance. The racist bigots weaving the black sun on the parliament hill as well as the restaurant owners stripping works’ basic dignity are being met with masses of people mobilizing and resisting. Racism is a business, but the movement against it is growing.

Ordinary people are empowered to demand that they be heard when there is a movement behind them.

How do we organize to ensure that our struggles are successful? What can we learn from struggles around the world, and from revolutionary upheavals of the past? With 12 workshops and 3 discussion panels on climate change, fight against racism, indigenous sovereignty, Marxist theory, revolutionary history and much more, there is something for everyone at Marxism 2018.

Please join us for a series of talks and workshops on how we can build the resistance together.

We hope to see you there!
